412 Food Rescue is excited to announce that the Good Food Project Kitchen in Millvale is expanding its hours! Beginning March 18th, Mondays will be open for Kitchen Prep volunteering opportunities.

Born in 2019, the Good Food Project was created in response to large volume donations of fresh food to 412 Food Rescue. These types of donations are typically hard for individual nonprofits to break down and distribute to the community members they serve, so our team stabilizes and transforms bulk surplus food into healthy, frozen meals.

Using the MyPlate model as a guide, our meals provide nutritious-rich and delicious meals that are prepared and delivered with dignity. Each meal is housed in compostable packing and is made up of recovered, good food which would have otherwise ended up in a landfill. These healthy, heat-and-eat meals are then distributed to local Pittsburgh neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

By expanding our Kitchen Prep hours to now include Mondays, we hope to prepare and package even more homemade meals to distribute throughout the community.

Your time volunteering with us is our most valuable resource at the Good Food Project: In 2023, you helped us create, package, and distribute 1,900 meals per month! Together, we can grow that impact in 2024.

Get involved!

Up to three people at a time can volunteer to help in Kitchen Prep to cook and prepare these meals – no formal kitchen training is required.

  • Monday through Thursday 10am-3pm
  • Friday 10am-2pm

“We hope this addition brings both familiar and fresh faces to join us as we continue to provide nutritious, home-cooked meals to community members facing hunger across the greater Pittsburgh metropolitan area.”

Greg Austin, Director of Distribution Initiatives

Join us on Mondays this year – we’re always looking forward to welcoming you into our space.
