This Earth Month, we’re THRILLED to celebrate the amazing generosity of our Food Rescue Heroes in a few ways.
First of all, to recognize the daily impact we are having – right here in Pittsburgh – on each other, our community and our world. Because of the everyday rescues that our Food Rescue Heroes claim, our community of over 18,000 Food Rescue Heroes make a unique, collective impact as the largest and fastest growing volunteer food rescue in the country.
It’s simply incredible how every day actions can make such an extraordinary impact.
21 million pounds of good, nutritious food SAVED from entering the waste stream! That’s the equivalent to 18 million meals! And millions of mitigated greenhouse gas emissions.
That’s why April is extra special to everyone at 412 Food Rescue, because this month marks a number of community-wide events that strike at the heart of so many values we share:
April 12 – 412 Day! This is OUR day to celebrate all the goodness Pittsburghers represent! Let’s encourage each other to get out this 412 Day and claim a rescue and share the experience with your neighbors, your friends and your colleagues on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter!
April 22 – Earth Day! In honor of Earth Day this year, get a your gang together and sign up for our Grocery Bagging Program or our newest service, Home Delivery. Our Home Delivery volunteers take 3 or so hours out of their Saturdays to deliver fresh food directly to the doorstops of our most vulnerable neighbors, in collaboration with our generous food donors and non-profit partners. It’s an incredible way to spend time serving our fellow Pittsburghers in need while keeping fresh, delicious food from getting thrown away.
April 25 to May 1 – Food Rescue Hero Week! This year we’re kicking off an entire week of celebrations to THANK and CELEBRATE our growing community of volunteers from Food Rescue Heroes to Grocery Bagging Project and Good Food Project volunteers. Be on the lookout for a daily email announcing exclusive offers from some of our favorite partners, restaurants and Pittsburgh classics, just for our Food Rescue Heroes in Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, Westmoreland, Washington, and Fayette counties!
