412 Food Rescue Rallies Pittsburgh Community for Giving Tuesday: A Call to Add Purpose to Your Calendar

Giving Tuesday is December 3, 2024.

Powered by People, Driven by Purpose: Your Donation Delivers Twice the Impact

The season of giving is here, and 412 Food Rescue is thrilled to invite you to join this year’s global day of giving through the Pittsburgh Magazine’s GiveBig Pittsburgh. This annual 24-hour fundraising event unites local nonprofits, including many of the 412 Food Rescue nonprofit distribution partners, in a powerful mission to drive impact across the region.

On December 3, 412 Food Rescue isn’t just seeking donations; we’re calling on you to become part of a community-wide movement that transforms food access while protecting the environment. Every dollar you give ensures that good food reaches Pittsburghers experiencing food insecurity rather than rotting in a landfill and fueling greenhouse gas emissions. With each gift, you make a monumental impact by supporting food security and climate action in one powerful step.

“Every donation is a powerful stand against waste and creates convenient access to healthy food for many of our neighbors experiencing food insecurity,” says Alyssa Cholodofsky, CEO of 412 Food Rescue. “Imagine the change you can create when you help transform 40% of wasted food into nutritious meals for the one in five Pittsburgh residents facing hunger.”

Your Donation Delivers Dual Impact

412 Food Rescue’s unique mission creates a two-fold benefit: feeding people while tackling the environmental harm caused by food waste. Each dollar you give fuels an action-ready network of food donors, nonprofit partners, volunteers, and supporters who work together to rescue food and redirect it to locations easily accessible by those experiencing food insecurity. Last year alone, your support delivered 4.4 million pounds of surplus food, turning what would have been waste into the equivalent of 3.6 million meals. Your help this year will ensure that even more families receive the nourishing food they need while protecting our environment.

How to Join This Movement on Giving Tuesday

1. Mark Your Calendar for December 3rd and plan to give a gift that directly benefits both people and the planet.

2. Every Dollar Counts: Every dollar you contribute not only helps fund the infrastructure that makes food rescue possible, you allow local nonprofit partners to save valuable resources and reinvest them in their critical services. Your gift empowers Pittsburgh’s nonprofits to serve more people and focus on the programs that keep our community thriving.

3. Multiply the Impact: Your voice matters! Spread the word about 412 Food Rescue’s mission to family and friends, encouraging them to join you in a movement that delivers hope and drives change.

The 412 Food Rescue’s Good Food Project has been an incredible resource for our community at the Kingsley Association. It provides nutritious and dignified meals for our seniors, program participants, and neighbors who are dealing with food insecurity, including families with children and the elderly. The variety and quality of the meals not only meet essential needs but also bring a bit of excitement and surprise, as people never quite know what delicious dishes they’ll receive.”
