Gordon Food Service Donates Over Two Tons from Pittsburgh Food Show 2025

On March 26th, 412 Food Rescue rescued 5,247 lbs of food from the annual Gordon Food Service’s Food Show at the David Lawrence Convention Center.

Every year, Gordon Food Service hosts annual Food Shows around the country for individuals working in the foodservice industry. Vendors set up to showcase sample food, new ideas and explore technology solutions.

Since 2019, 412 Food Rescue has partnered with Gordon Food Service to rescue surplus food from vendors at the commencement of the event.

412 Food Rescue team members, along with 6 amazing volunteers, went around the event space after the Food Show to rescue surplus food from the hundreds of vendors present that day! 5,274 lbs of surplus food–predominantly made up of meat, produce, prepared foods, and baked goods–was loaded onto 412 Food Rescue fleet trucks for distribution throughout the Pittsburgh community.

412 Food Rescue’s fleet worked late into the night to deliver food to eight nonprofit partners in the Greater Pittsburgh area including CARE 412, Gateway School District, HACP Northview Heights, Project Destiny, Roots of Faith, Royally Fit, the Good Food Project, United Somali Bantu of Greater Pittsburgh, and West Park Court.

This show plays a big impact on our various nonprofit partners every year! We are able to supply them with extremely fresh ready to eat food and frozen/refrigerated product!

Here’s some kind words from a few of our nonprofit partners who received from the show:

“The GFS Food Show donations have been great! It not only feeds the people in the building, but it feeds the homeless people and a block of families that live in Polish Hill. This helps a lot of people, and I'm truly grateful for the donation.”

“CARE412, as a GFS Foods 2025 food show recipient, was able to redistribute over 600 lbs of high-quality foods to over 40 community CARE Box Program recipients. This donation consisted of a vibrant mix of fresh produce, mixed proteins, dairy, and shelf-stable items.
The 412 Food Rescue delivery team arrived with the same good-spirited energy they are known for, making the late, no-hassle delivery efficient and fun!”

“Every year, 412 Food Rescue reaches out to Project Destiny to deliver donated food from the GFS food show to give to our families in need. This is and has been a blessing to receive the fresh variety of meats, produce, snack foods, eggs, drinks etc. and other quality foods. Project Destiny looks forward to all the healthy, fresh foods GFS provides that normally our families and community members could never afford within their budget restraints.”

A big thank you to all the volunteers who signed up to help collect all the surplus food and pack the truck, to the participating vendors who donated their surplus, and to Gordon Food Services for inviting us back to this year’s event!
