This past Saturday, August 2nd, the Health and Well “Fair” lit up the Vernon C. Neal Sportsplex in Washington, PA with energy, connection, and community care.

Hosted by the Washington County Health & Welfare Council, the event was a resounding success, welcoming dozens of community members eager to learn, connect, and receive vital resources—all at no cost.

Over two dozen nonprofit organizations were on-site with resource tables and giveaways, offering attendees everything from helpful information to fun “swag” to take home. A special thank you goes out to Dress for Success, who brought their Mobile Closet, and Cornerstone Care mobile dental unit that provided important screenings right on-site.

412 Food Rescue was proud to take part in this powerful day of service. In partnership with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, and with generous support from a private donor and Giant Eagle, 412 Food Rescue curated and distributed grocery bags filled with fresh items like eggs and produce. These bags were a welcome support to many Washington County residents, most of whom came from the city of Washington. And when the event wrapped up, our friends at the LeMoyne Community Center stepped in to help distribute leftover bags—ensuring no food went to waste and more families received nourishment.

One of the highlights of the day was a special appearance from Mayor JoJo Burgess, who stopped by to greet attendees and show his support for the community. Another crowd favorite? Rooty the Carrot, 412 Food Rescue’s very own mascot, who brought smiles, hugs, and high-fives to kids and adults alike.

For 412 Food Rescue, this event wasn’t just about handing out food—it was about building relationships and trust in Washington County. Every conversation, every connection, every grocery bag passed hand-to-hand helped deepen our roots in the community.

Thank you to all who made the Health and Well “Fair” a success—we’re proud to be part of this important work, and we’re excited for what’s to come.
