We’re rooting for our newest team member - literally. Get to know Rooty, our fresh and feisty food rescue super-carrot mascot!
Rooty joins us from humble beginnings in the back of a produce truck and has become a passionate advocate for saving perfectly good food. With a natural knack for rallying volunteers and a flair for fashion (look at those leafy green locks), Rooty is stealing hearts and saving the planet, one food rescue at a time.
We sat down with Rooty for a little Q&A to dig deeper into what makes this carrot tick.

Rooty
412 Food Rescue Mascot
Full name: Rutledge Scrapsworth Carrington
Pronouns: he/him/hummus
Age: In his prime
Q: What brought you to 412 Food Rescue?
A: I was almost tossed into a landfill just because I was considered slightly oversized for household consumption, but the team here saw my true potential. Now I get to fight food waste instead of becoming compost. I’m living my best life and crunching for a cause!
Q: What does food rescue mean to you?
A: It means giving every fruit, veggie, loaf, and leftover the chance to fulfill its destiny. No food should be left behind – it’s about second chances, full bellies, and a happier planet. Also, I get to wear a cape, which is pretty rad.
Q: What is your personal mission statement?
A: I’m here to stalk food waste and turnip awareness around food rescue.
Q: Favorite book?
A: The Grapes of Wrath. It’s a real tear-jerker, and honestly, grapes deserve more dramatic representation in literature.
Q: Go-to karaoke song?
A: “Carrots Whisper”
In his spare time, Rooty enjoys composting jokes, high-fiber hangouts, and long walks to the fridge. You can catch Rooty on upcoming food rescues, social media shenanigans, and possibly sneaking into your lunchbox!
