Good Food Project: Grocery Bagging

In partnership with the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh (HACP), large food donations are repackaged weekly into 500+ individual grocery bags and redistributed to HACP residents. Your team will work together, unloading bulk food donations, repackaging into single servings, and creating bags of fresh food for distribution.

Good Food Project: Kitchen Prep

The Good Food Project, a zero-waste kitchen nestled inside the Millvale Food + Energy Hub, stabilizes bulk surplus food by transforming it into healthy, heat-and-eat meals. Volunteer sous chefs assists with food prep and packaging. No kitchen experience is required.

Good Food Project Takeover

Larger groups will rotate through both Grocery Bagging and Zero Waste Kitchen Prep programs.

App Takeover

Guided by our friendly, intuitive app, our Food Rescue Heroes recover fresh, healthy food from retailers and transport it directly to nonprofit partners serving those facing food insecurity. We'll host a quick orientation, then your team will take off for food rescues, while we tell your story via all social platforms.

3-6 vehicles; 2-3 people per vehicle

FarmShare

2024 season is closed, thanks for a great season! Check back later for next year’s opportunities. The seasonal FarmShare program creates a market for local, fresh produce from local farms get distributed and redirected from going to waste.

Location: Millvale Food + Energy Hub 112 E. Sherman St. Millvale Pa 15209

Activity: Packing fruits and veggies into paper bags or “shares” to be distributed to local FarmShare subscribers.

Volunteers are asked to wear closed toed shoes, bring a bottle of water, and come ready to work! Please fill out the Volunteer Waiver before arrival.

Restrictions: All volunteers must be comfortable lifting 25 lbs. Minors (under 18) are not permitted to volunteer. 412 Food Rescue reserves the right to deny participation to volunteers who do not report to the FarmShare after reserving a shift. Please provide a minimum of 48 hours for cancellations.
