It would have been perfectly understandable if Antwon Rose Sr. had let himself descend into a funk this Thanksgiving, the first since the June death of his son.

Mr. Rose, a 49-year-old hotel maintenance man who lives in Rankin, joined other volunteers in setting up the tables in space provided by the Woodland Hills School District, unloading 200 classic Thanksgiving meals delivered by 412 Food Rescue, pouring drinks donated by Greater Valley Community Services and then cleaning up and packing the leftovers for distribution.
