Hear from Bruegger’s about why ending #foodwaste and #hunger is so important!
Why is redirecting surplus food important to Bruegger’s?
Bruegger’s Bagels has donated more than 250,000 of its authentic, New York-style bagels through its partnership with 412 Food Rescue. This partnership allows Bruegger’s to diminish waste and help fight hunger in Pittsburgh.
“In the past, we sold day-old bagels in our bakeries at a discount, and they were a popular item, but we saw an opportunity to do something meaningful instead,” said Bruegger’s Bagels Tom Wells, District Manager. “Through our Last Night’s Bagel program, we’re able to have our authentic, kettle-cooked bagels reach those in need living in our community.”
What value has 412 Food Rescue provided to Bruegger’s?
Bruegger’s Bagels donates bagels from the previous day to food pantries, soup kitchens and other community outreach groups throughout Pittsburgh via 412 Food Rescue, which matches food donors with beneficiaries, and mobilizes a community of volunteers to transport the food. The ease of pick-up and peace-of-mind knowing 44 area anti-hunger programs will benefit from Bruegger’s Bagels donations is a tremendous value.
If you could give someone one reason to volunteer with 412 Food Rescue, what would it be?
Bruegger’s Bagels has partnered with 412 Food Rescue since April 2016 and experiences first-hand the commitment, passion and pride each volunteer possesses. Together, we are able to decrease waste and end hunger in Pittsburgh. It’s a wonderful mission where volunteers are able to make significant, immediate change in the community.
