On this special February edition of our featured Food Rescue Hero, Michael Dougherty (you might also know him as Mikey from 96.1KISS!) spreads the love all around.
How did you first learn about 412 Food Rescue?
I believe I first heard about 412 Food Rescue when Andrew McCutchen was getting involved and I just remember the story about him helping get the big, green truck and wanted to start looking more into what the program was all about. My first rescue was in August of 2017.
What does it mean to you to do rescues with someone you love?
My wife, Jamie, and daughter, Addison have both done rescues with me and, for us as parents, being able to take Addison with us and SHOW her how easy it is to make s huge impact is a crucial thing to teach her at a young age because she’ll carry lessons like that with her for the rest of her life.
What message of love do you want to share?
Pittsburgh is love. The people of Pittsburgh love this city and are so giving, especially when someone is in need. To love Pittsburgh, is to help others in and around the Pittsburgh area. You really do get a feeling of love and community and pride when you go out on a rescue and even just help spread the word about the work of 412 Food Rescue. It’s a simple act that puts out BIG love.
