Hear from Paul Jackson, a devoted #foodrescuehero, about his experiences reducing #foodwaste and #hunger in #Pittsburgh!

How did you first learn about 412 Food Rescue?

I was talking with a mentor of mine about not being fully fulfilled with my current business and one thing I did enjoy was donating. I always feel good when I’m doing for others.

Why do you volunteer?

I volunteer because its much more meaningful to me to give my time and do good for others appose to just ending a check.

Please let our readers know how you volunteer.

I volunteer both by picking up food and dropping it off to people who will consume it as well as by telling friends and promoting the 412FR mission.

Has there been a highlight or a favorite moment since volunteering with 412 Food Rescue?

The biggest highlight is having fun while doing for others, it brings me joy and laughter after shoving 500 loaves of bread and my car floor to ceiling. And then seeing the looks on the faces of the people I drop it off to when they see my car.

If you could give someone one reason to volunteer with 412 Food Rescue, what would it be?

The biggest reason is to save the food! Waste not, want not. Once you realized how much food there is that gets wasted, its hard to thing of there not being enough. So that just shifts your mindset to work with 412FR to help move that abundance to someone who might have a harder time getting food because of one reason or another. I would also like to add how amazing the 412FR team is, they are so thoughtful and caring. They have appreciation events very often and always ALWAYS give so much love to everyone. They are truly wonderful people.
