Hey, June! Read on to learn more about her #FRH journey!
How did you first learn about 412 Food Rescue?
I learned about 412 Food Rescue from an article I read on Facebook. I never heard of it before & being a life-long Pittsburgher, the name intrigued me to want to learn more.
Why did you decide to become a #FoodRescueHero?
After reading about 412 Food Rescue on their website, I knew I needed to become a volunteer. I couldn’t believe the statistics on food waste! Coming from a very large family, I know the importance of using up everything in the kitchen before it went to waste. I felt like I was participating in something I was taught to do by my Mom…never waste food.
What do your rescues typically look like?
I have a regular rescue every Saturday morning. This has become part of my weekend routine. I also try & rescue on Tuesday & Thursday when I’m off work. I’m still a newer volunteer so I’m learning the ropes one rescue at a time.
Has there been a highlight or a favorite moment since you started rescuing food with us?
My favorite rescue was a pick up from Panera Bread to a drop off at a senior citizen high rise. The seniors were anxiously awaiting the goodies from Panera! They were so excited to be receiving bread, bagels, pastries & cookies. Seeing them smile made my day!
If you could give someone one reason to become a #FoodRescueHero with 412 Food Rescue, what would it be?
One reason to become a Food Rescue Hero is this: simplicity. Being a #FoodRescueHero is the simplest way to make a huge, positive impact in the community.
